TRAIL CONDITIONS: White Clay/ Middle Run

Here's the latest as of 3:00 Pm from one of our Expert Riders

I just finished trying to ride WCCSP and MR, both parks are a sheet of ice. The majority of the trails are unridable and many are too slippery to even walk on. Even the gravel road in WCCSP was almost unridable as was the trail along Creek rd out of newark.
This is just a heads up that it ain't worth getting all suited up to ride only to have to push your bike as you try not to slip, fall and break your ass.
I figure if it doesn't warm and dry out the next week or so it's going to suck for mtn biking in these two parks.
Due to these conditions, this might be a good time to start painting your house, as if there is ever a good time for that.

Have a super day,
Todd

Certainly interested but the bigger issue is traction.

Ted and John Miller tried last night at MC and said without studs it's futile.

Seeing the temp hasn't been above freezing all day with no sun, I can guess the conditions are the same.

It's really sketchy out there. Did a gravel ride at Fair Hill last night and even sections of that were unrideable.

I'm pretty impressed with how certain fat bike tires do on ice.  45NRTH Vanhelgas at 6 pounds pressure have one hell of a contact patch!  Not like you're going to be making a lot of turns on gloss ice, but you can move along way better than normal MTB tires for sure.

It's time to get out the studded tires and ride..... like the mountain bikers we are.  :-)

I can assure you that MC (Marsh Creek) is indeed unrideable without studs.

Many of the trails look like a water main broke and water flowed and just froze in place. It's glare ice too which means even with studs and our extreme GVW over the back tire, we were just spinning.

The place is pretty much iced over everywhere. If it thaws, it's going to be a goopy mess.

Pretty good excuse to get some self-tapping screws, a drill, Gorilla tape and a pair of old tires and make your own studded tires. It's not like they go bad and days like yesterday will allow you to ride. Mine and Ted's set are four and five years old now.

From hotels.
Walked trail to first left little downhill to creek. Ice. From what I saw, any water lines, low spots all ice. The trail to creek all ice.

French creek is all rideable. A few icy spots but mostly hard crunchy snow.

Hey Now,

I went on a fact finding ride at Iron Hill this morning, it's my job. I'm please to report that all trails were quite rideable and mostly ice free(much more dirt than ice.) I suggest you go ride your bike at IronHill or somewhere else, just ride.

Enjoy
