Trail Report MR/WC 10-5-15

Trails were in good shape with no standing water, a few bird baths, but over all good to excellent shape. One dead fall in the Pines on the Possum Hollow loop. It is apparent that the recent work by the trail care crew is really paying off with grade reversals, nicks, and positive side slope all contributing to excellent drainage for the trail system. WE notice several rangers over at White Clay near dusk, remember night riding is not currently permitted in White Clay State Park while we wait for the State to approve their proposed trial night ride program in White Clay. Now go ride your bike.

Brandywine Trail Maintenance

We had an outstanding turnout for this Saturdays trail work at Brandywine State Park, Woodlawn Preserve, & First State National monument. Chris Zeliznak worked with Park Superintendent, Angle Burns to schedule the event. Brooke Derr from the First State National Monument attended our work party to observe and guide. I want to also thank Joel Flambaum, Casey Chaudhry, James Knight, Michelle Davduk, Jill Pagliei, Tomi Ogborn, Chip Mippert, John Mays, John Williams, Arturo Castillon, John Talucci who volunteered their time and effort to maintain the trails. With everyone's help we were able to clear dead falls from numerous trails; Veil of Clouds, Blue Trail, River Trail, Sweet Willie (Middle & Upper), and Boy Scout. We also had a team trimming trails with the power trimmers and raking and cleaning up debris. Well done on all accounts now go out and ride!

Extended Trail Hours in Delaware State Parks

The Trail Spinners have been advocating for “Extended Trail Hours” in Delaware State Parks for over 8 years.

On Wednesday September 16, 2015 Delaware State Parks will be hosting a public “Extended Trail Hours” workshop at the Judge Morris Estate from 4 PM until 8 PM.

This is a critical meeting for the trail community. We need everyone to show up for a few minutes during the workshop. What we’re expecting for this pilot is the White Clay Creek State Park trails will be open until 9 PM every day but, parking lots will close at dusk. Take a little time to talk with our Delaware State Park representatives and local politicians. Definitely fill-out the survey if Delaware State Parks has one.

We’re working on getting more details on the pilot.

Please spread the word and get as many people to this meeting at the Judge Morris Estate on Wednesday September 16, 2015 between 4 PM and 8 PM.
